The Guilty Party

Excerpt of the book titled, The Guilty Party Author: Omoruyi Uwuigiaren Publisher: Human Change Communication Co. Chapter One There was no rain for weeks and the scorching sun showed no mercy on the leaves such that one could hear the sounds the leaves made when they fell. The sun shone as if there might never be tomorrow. In the midst of this hardship was a man that most people called Ogbuefi. He grew up in a dinky little town that did not even have a movie theater. The man seemed to be robust due to many years of inactivity and his baldhead shone like an afternoon sun. Ogbuefi had lost so much and there was no way he would forget in a hurry the truckload of misfortune that crept into his life like a man that dined with mischievous people. Adversity came like the rushing wind upon the poor soul. However, all that had befallen Mr. Ogbuefi were nothing in comparison to the harm that he had caused the world. With nothing better to do, the man in the pool of old age sat on a sofa in...

Hard Tackle by Omoruyi Uwuigiaren

There is a common saying in Nigeria that “The police is your friend”. The essence of the statement is to create a healthy relationship between our brothers in black and the populace. But if we send out a questionnaire, I doubt if the respondents will put a smile on the faces of our friends whose duty is to give us the necessary cover when the odds are up against us. No man will like to have anything to do with what will make him walk on the wheels of fire! We are all aware that the responsibility of the police is to keep public order, prevent and solve crime. But looking at the way our society is drowned in the pool of corruption, and has embraced evil manipulations, no doubt both acts have incurred frustration on the future of our nation. In fact, we do not need a prophet to tell us that most of our policemen like some of our leaders are not better than gamblers worshipping at the temple of Mammon! Have you visited Lasu/Isheri road recently? A movie maker that is daring as if there...

Night Rain by Omoruyi Uwuigiaren

When I was in the pool of the natural state of rest in which my body and mind embraced as if there might never be tomorrow, a strange noise from my neighbor’s house hit the air and robbed me of my comfort. I jumped out of the bed and glanced carefully to every side. My breath was hitting the roof of my chest vehemently because I thought a devil had struck to wreck the havoc. My heart almost stopped in the fear of it. But just as the mischief walked into silence, and there was no interloper lurking, my fear was buried in the bosom of sudden death. Then I concluded that the poor soul must have had a strange battle with a miserable rat from a dark oblivion, and such was a daily occurrence under the roof of the neighbor. After staying awake for a while and the time stood at 3:28am, I had nothing better to do than rest in the comfort of such imaginings. But just as I closed my eyes in the pool of the Lady Tranquility that took her esteemed seat in my house, I found myself in another ho...

The Boy in the Mirror by Omoruyi Uwuigiaren

We found the boy in the midst of our tormentors in the aftermath of a massacre that came like a rushing wind upon the city. In our pool of old age, we wore long faces as if we had eaten frustration that day.The tragedy that struck us when the evening was about to resume duty took her esteemed seat in the heart of the melee. When we contended with the frightening figures, one of them whose balls sat in the socket of his skull was daring, shaven and his head like an egg, pounced and hurled a devastating blow.I could not stomach the onslaught of the wicked soul for it swept me off my feet. But before I could regain my footing, the boy broke lose from the cruel grip of the creatures and was at ease in the creepy kind of place. All of a sudden, the devil that resides in the throne of the boy's heart walked into the scheme of things and emitted destructive powers that reminds us of doomsday. His roar almost brought the apartment down. The mythical creatures had nothing better to do t...

Dark Days by Omoruyi Uwuigiaren

Do you know that God respects no man? If you sin, you will sink! Humans naturally reflect their world. So your actions are the product of what is in you. Evil has crept into the world. Only people that identify with Jesus Christ will swim to safety on the last day. "The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runs into it and is safe" (Proverbs 18v10). For you to enjoy your place in eternity, you must embrace righteousness. Anything short of this is a highway to hell. "Righteousness exalts a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people" (Proverbs14v34). We have stepped into dark days; the era that Jesus Christ prophesied about over two thousand years ago. He said and I quote, "And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying I am the Christ; and shall deceive many. Any ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars, see that ye be not troubled. For all these things must come to pass, but the ...

Wagner Ekundayo by Omoruyi Uwuigiaren

A cockerel sounded it was dawn as tragedy walked the bare chest of the street and wrote frustration on the face of the earth. The land that spread before me like an old balance sheet under the little nose of a shrewd accountant was covered with men who were as dark as the midnight, broken and shattered, like savages in defenseless post waiting for providence to take her esteemed seat in the scheme of things and humble the bizarre tale that is more hellish than the enterprise of a sorcerer. They were reduced by the cruel hands of an unjust fate, and had nothing better to do than gazing at our mutual friend, the sun—a hot yellow ball that fed the earth as if there was no morrow. I saw tears gathered in their eyes and were not better than a woman in travail in a cold night. It would have been better they never had a dose of his goodwill, for his goodwill was like a grave, lurking in the pool of loneliness, which was the meal for men of little means and those under the spell of confusion...

God is Great by Omoruyi Uwuigiaren

Whether you believe it or not, we are in a world under the spell of principalities and powers. Disaster, famine and violence are signs of the devil's presence. His desire is to write frustration on the face of the old earth. "Be sober, be vigilant:because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5v8)." But the limitation that the world is experiencing today, does not mean that God does not exist. "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty (Revelation1v8)." God is ever ready to lead you to greatness. And, for that to happen, you must live in the realm of holiness. "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God (Matthew 5v8)." God is real. Search for Him if you don't want to live in the limited zone of life. "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek m...
