Australia's Longest Venomous Snake Is a 13-Foot King Cobra Named Raja.

Australian King Cobra named Raja. From spiders to sharks to snakes, Australia is home to some of the world’s most dangerous, yet awe-inspiring creatures. Take, for instance, the king cobra—one of the world’s most venomous snakes—which can grow up to 18 feet long. Currently, the largest recorded king cobra in all of Australia is a 13.45-foot-long snake named Raja who resides at  The Australian Reptile Park  in New South Wales.  The 13-year-old snake, who weighs more than 17 pounds, has actually grown over the past year, which is a good thing, explained Dan Rumsey, the head of Reptiles and Venom at The Australian Reptile Park. "Weighing Raja is essential, as it’s the first indicator of his overall health,” he told petMD.  While a king cobra like Raja isn't the most venomous in the world, his bite is nothing to mess around with. “A single bite is enough to kill several people, or even an elephant,” Rumsey stressed. During a recent milking session,...

N50 Billion Earmarked To Sabotage IPOB – Asari Dokubo.

Larger than life Asari Dokubo LEADER of the Niger Delta Volunteer Force (NDVF) , Asari Dokubo, has alleged how a whopping N50billion, has been handed down to security operatives get Niger Delta militants to undermine the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). In a new video he posted on the social media, the dreaded Niger Delta advocate, who came into prominence during the President Olusegun Obasanjo regime, and was a bone in the throat of Nigerian authorities prior to the Amnesty Programme that led to the ceasing of hostilities in the oil-rich region, narrated how he was contacted by a top security operative, to co-opt him into the project. His role, according to the video, was to get him to mobilise the “Niger Delta combatants” feared to harbour favourable sentiments for the IPOB and who would fight on the side of the group seeking to break Nigeria, in the case of an outbreak of a war. He must do this, according to him on the pain of arrest and death,...

#Rant961 (On America) by Joy Isi Bewaji.

In America, you forget your shame, your fears; the things that keep you quiet in Nigeria, the laughter that was so awkward walking down the streets of Lagos for fear of being judged mad. Because in Africa, everybody is everybody’s neighbour; so we look out for ourselves in ways that are intrusive and aggravating. The old woman from across the street has a right to rebuke your child for wearing shorts too short; people have a right to demand you get married and be happy. They also have a right to insist you are not happy with being alone. The African life is a life of mass approval and applause. America is different. I ate a burger at a park, and nobody saw me. A lady walked in with only a bra and a pair of shorts to McDonald's, and the black male attendant looked straight at her without blinking, without the African twitch of discomfort, or the desire to judge or criticize. A man may decide to walk down the street naked, and I bet the entire Manhattan populace would ignor...

El-Rufai’s Morbid Fixation with Death of His Political Opponents By Farooq A. Kperogi, Ph.D.

There is no doubt that Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai embodies one of the most morbidly toxic strains of political intolerance in Nigeria. He exteriorizes his discomfort with opposition by literally wishing death upon his opponents or claiming credit for their death. At a Kaduna APC stakeholders’ meeting last Saturday, he told political opponents that should they insist on fighting him, they would die like the late President Umar Musa Yar’adua did. “I had fought with two presidents,” he said. “Umaru Yar’Adua ended in his grave, while President Goodluck Jonathan ended in Otueke.” Several groups in Katsina have taken this statement as El-Rufai’s self-confession of culpability in the death of the late president. This is, of course, an inaccurate interpretation of his words. Apparently, El-Rufai cherishes the illusion that the late Yar’adua died not because he was sick, but because he opposed him politically. He imagines himself to possess supernatural powers tha...

The Myth of a Dark Spirit by Omoruyi Uwuigiaren.

Next day, the morning walked briskly into brightness. Kazeem, the emissary had once again tasted freedom which he grabbed with both hands. Salis deprived the emissary any of the weapons on the ship. To say the least, the favor was restricted to walking freely without a weapon for defense in such a creepy kind of place. By the time they had waded waist-deep through the river to land, the emissary was famished and pale, for he had been in the belly of hell.  “Show me the way!” Salis ordered and pushed the emissary forward. Frightened by the hard stand of the imposing figure, Kazeem brought out a map from his pocket and spread it before them like an old balance sheet under the nose of a shrewd accountant. After examining the map, he looked carefully around the forest and back to the map. Then he raised his head and pointed at the bush path to the left. “That’s the way,” he muttered with a quivering voice. “Are you sure?” Salis spoke as if he was talking to a confused man. ...
