Book Review: The Promised Land

In this short story, THE PROMISED LAND, author Omoruyi Uwuigiaren discusses Moses and how he disappointed God by not following His will. God also explains to Moses what he did that made him angry. He says it’s normal to get angry, but it’s wrong if you can’t control that anger. Something for each of us to think about, when we are about to lose our temper, perhaps. In each of the chapters, God talks to Moses. THE PROMISED LAND is a reminder to the reader, in very specific words, of how much God loves us. And, in spite of our doing things that anger God, He takes us home to Heaven when it’s our time. To me, that shows His love. What do you think? This story would make a nice addition to your home library. It would be good to read every now and then, especially when you need encouragement of how God is always with us, in good times and in bad. ·          Release Date:  February 17, 2019 ·       ...

Excerpt of the Forthcoming Book, "Misery of the Popular God" by Omoruyi Uwuigiaren

There are people who think they are better than others. We are gods and there is a “ Supreme Being” that rules in the affairs of men. The Supreme Being is the God of us all. “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh…” Jeremiah 32 v 27a. He is the one true God that is love and ever willing to accept people irrespective of their weakness and shortcoming. He is eternal. He is the beginning and the end. He is open to help anyone because we are all inscribed in the palm of his hands. He is not a material God that requires sticks and stones before He will respond. He is a spiritual being and it requires a high level of spirituality to work with Him. “God is a spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth,” John 4 v 24. While you are spiritual in your service to God, you are expected to be in charge of your own life. As children of God, you have the power to take decisions, rest when you are tired, and find something to eat. You can also cloth yourself, see...

A Rich man or a Womanizer by Omoruyi Uwuigiaren

Leokad, a popular book distributor in Aba, Abia state, ordered for 200 copies each of my books—Giant in a Hut and Billy the Island Goat. On Tuesday morning, I was at Izuchukwu Motors at Jibowu to do a waybill. When I walked into the office, I was not comfortable with the silence that hung in the air. The office was a funeral and whoever coughed was sent to the gallows. Izuchukwu Motors have never been this silent. I approached Peter, the receptionist at the table. Peter tried to impress me with an exaggerated smile as we shook hands and exchanged pleasantries but it was easy to tell that he was in the same pool as others who seemed to swear an oath not to talk when Oga is around. He was not alone on the table. Peter is bare five feet tall. By his side was a man who is almost two times his height. He was dark and had a strong square jaw. He wore a shirt that had seen better days and his faded jean trousers worth nothing. But the man held a phone that was the size of an Olympic st...

In Power for the Wrong Reasons by Omoruyi Uwuigiaren

President Muhammadu Buhari has been sworn in for a second four year term on Wednesday May 29, 2019. Under normal circumstances, there should be proof that you have done enough to earn or merit such privilege. A man should not be given any mandate to rule because of his political affiliation, tribe, ethnic or religion. For a president that has done little or nothing in the last four years, the reactions from the people should be loud enough to retire him. With what is on ground or the current situation of Nigeria, Buhari does not deserve a second term. One wonders why he still has the mandate to lead majority of Nigerians who are sad, demoralized and depressed from his years of misrule. There have been more cases of mediocrity than excellence since 2015. Except he makes the right decisions and see Nigeria from a broader perspective, we are only going to reinforce failure. Under Buhari’s rule, crime rate has increased. Kidnapping, banditry and killings of innocent Nigerians ...

The Boy Abducted to Guide Blind Beggars in Nigeria

Picture of the boy and his mother at a tender age Samuel has no recollection of the day he was abducted, aged seven, from his family home in the northern Nigerian city of Kano. They would not see him again for another six years. The Search "There is nothing we didn't do to try to find him," his older sister Firdausi Okezie recalls. Then aged 21, she was not made aware of his disappearance at first. Her brother had always enjoyed rushing to answer the phone and speak with her when she called home from university.
