YOU MAD? BAKE CAKE! From the Prolific Nigerian Writer Joy Isi Bewaji

Be brave.

Do not be scared.

Write what terrifies you.

Take the risk and flow against the tide. Remember the airplane must lift against the wind before it stabilizes on the bare chest of the sky.

YOU MAD? BAKE CAKE! FROM THE QUEEN OF NIGERIAN LITERATURE JOY ISI BEWAJI

Joy Isi Bewaji is a unique writer. She is vocal, tough and courageous. She’s not afraid to take on big projects. She calls herself the “bad ass” but her fans call her the Queen.

Her new book,

YOU MAD? BAKE CAKE

is refreshing!

You Mad? Bake Cake!

When a woman’s vagina is dragged into an argument, it is the easiest way to silence her. Women hide behind the shame that comes from slutty slurs. Slut shaming is a woman’s burden, it is her affliction, and it is designed to destroy her. Slut shaming is sensationalism at the expense of truth. It thrives because the results are instant – the woman withers. The job is done. Once again, a woman has been put in her place. Society claps at the job well done. If you look in the crowd, you will see women cheering on, blending in with misogyny. And sometimes, the accuser is a woman – with a labia too. A woman like the Cake Girl who hates her own body.

From the novel entitled, "Beyond Imagination" by Oladele Dada.

Oladele Dada. It was dawn. The chilly dust-laden wind formed dense fog on the road. The rocky hills and the tall trees made Ajewole a beautiful town. The birds sang aloud, and clanging of stainless dishes in the neighbourhood suggested human activity was at its peak. Humans had begun to move to their various destinations. Adunni had trouble with child bearing and her husband was worried. Then she booked an appointment with her doctor. After several tests, the doctor suggested the couple be patient and that she will surely get pregnant. Not long after, Adunni was pregnant. After several months, Adunni was delivered of a boy. The women in her neighbourhood, alongside the children, sang and danced to her home to celebrate with her. Her husband, Fredrick Olagbade, thanked the Lord and named the boy Juwon.     As Juwon grew, his mother had another child whose name was Olakitan. Juwon was intelligent and his parents were struggling to make ends meet. As poverty st...
